My husband LOVES apple fritters! I think he loves anything with baked apples.
I use whole wheat flour in this apple fritters recipe. Sometimes when using whole wheat flour it gives the recipe a heaviness. I like to use white wheat. That helps a lot with the heaviness.
The best wheat to use for this is soft wheat. I don’t have any soft wheat right now so I used the hard white wheat and it works great!
When eating a whole foods diet you really want your ingredients to be in whole form. I always cook with whole wheat flour as it is easy to work with. I buy wheat berries in bulk and grind the berries when I need it. The wheat grinder I use is on my shop page.
If you have celiac disease then you will not want to use whole wheat flour. Otherwise the whole wheat flour is good for you. The only flour you want to stay away from is white flour. All nutrients are taken out of the flour when it is processed then some are artificially put back in.
I also use whole milk. Whole milk is the least processed of all the milks. There is no evidence to prove weight gain from whole milk. In fact, fatty acids in dairy have beneficial metabolic effects. It can also limit over eating.
You can use any kind of apple you like. Normally you cook with granny smith apples. When I made this I had honey crisp apples on hand. It was delicious!
The caramel glaze is also really easy to make and so yummy! With the glaze you could even eat these for dessert!
